Ice Skating
Lens: FA 28 - 200 Camera: Pentax K-50 Photo Location: Philadelphia, PA, USA
Posted By: oculus, 11-14-2014, 05:42 PM

I was out shooting street photography today and I noticed an ice show going on at city hall, so I pulled out the K-50 with the FA 28-200 and snapped away.

It is a good effort, the image is very soft and out of focus that I can see. There is no point in the image that is in focus that I can see on my laptop, did you miss focus or is it my laptop?

I think that the image is out of focus. I am still becoming accustomed to the lens as this is only the second or third time I've used it. Here is another effort.

The second photo is pretty good. Bad luck the last one, try spot focusing in AF or pre focus on some point may help.

Good try, I think aperture was kept wide open that's giving it softness, all shots seems to have focused on the ad banners in background.

When you have things that are moving quickly, the trick is to change the focus setting to AF-C and put it in burst mode. Focus on the skater while she's out somewhere and track her for a little bit--you will get her in focus soon enough. When you do, fire away! (You'll need a shutter speed of at least 1/400 for fast moving people and athletes.) Of the 4 or 5 images you'll get, one or two will come out in focus.

The second one of these is pretty nice; if you had nailed the focus, it would be a real stunner!
