Light painting
Posted By: FJC, 11-15-2014, 10:24 AM

Lightpainting. Have you tried? Itīs a funny way to make (not only take) a photograph. There are different techniques to do it, some really easy, some a bit complicated. Please share your photos, comments or tips to create this kind of pictures.

I mean, the photographer, the light painter and the ugly model all at once.

Could I ask you how did you manage for the first shot?

Of course. I firstly put the camera on a tripod, focused manually, set it to bulb mode and switched the light of the room off, so it was completelly dark.
Then I pushed the button of the cable trigger to start the picture, and using a little led light started to "paint" in the air, trying to imagine where each part of the car should be. My references were the corners of the matress (I was on a bed).
Finally I pushed again the cable trigger button and... That's all.
You can use any structure to help you draw straight or curved lines by going around it's outline (taking care of not illuminating the object) but in this picture I just did it drawing in the air.
Thank you!'

Thank you for the very accurate explanation! I think that it is something to give it a try.

I like both pics a lot, but the first one is really special!

I closed the apperture to about f8.
I lighted the area with a thin white led pointer during a while (bulb mode), spreading the light with a quick wrist movement from different angles, trying to create a three dimensional effect.
Finally, while editting the image, I changed the color. For me it looks like an under water image (a Titanic-finding type).

Thank you for the info. What about the second shot, it looks like you illuminated some actual objects isn't it ?

Thanks for sharing both the work....and the technique.....maybe you should start a thematic thread of light painting...it would be nice to see what others are up to and to have the thread as a reference...
