Le pêcheur / The Fisheman

This is a photo I took while canoeing up northern Quebec...
Taken with the DA* 300mm + HD TC 1.4x
it is so sharp you can even identify the lure on the fishing line! (at least I can when zooming in Lr)

Very nice shot! I really like how crisp it is, and the little bit of vignetting you did in post gives it a nicely iconic feel.

That's some shot, he's a wee bit central for me. I'd clip a bit off the left to get him on a third, background stunning.

Hope you gave this chap a big print.

HI, I know what you mean.... but I did it on purpose. I most of the time use 1/3 - 2/3 rule for framing, but not all the time...I thought in this case the subject in the center would be acceptable...

I will submit a variant just for comparison

I'm going with the first, are you still sticking with the second now you see them side by side?

I still prefer the original one, it gives me a sense of the wide open spaces where this pic was taken... like "in the middle of nowhere"
just a matter of preference I guess!

It's a great shot either way and we're just chilling here over the composition, shame it can't be done over a beer.

What a great place this forum is.

It's strange in terms of composition, but I like the version in the title message
Don't ask me why, after I saw initial version, any crop seems something incomplete...

I've been pushing the rule of thirds at a lot of posters, but in this case I agree that putting him central works, possibly because of the pseudo-vignetting effect on the edges. If I had to vote on one of the off-center ones it would be the top one, because there is a natural left to right feel to the image due to his fishing rod, that sort of pull the eye, so I want to have him more on the left. It also help you keep more of the rock outcropping that he is standing on.

No worries, don't get me wrong... I like to hear all the comments... and I like beer too ! (and since English is not my first tongue, I may have problem to express my feelings / thoughts right)
maybe if I had untitled it "in the middle of nowhere" I would have induced a subjective concept and it would have better influenced the viewers
