Common Bronzewing

They may have been common once, but these days not so much. I was very happy to catch this one on the ground; all the others have been high up in the trees!

Nice shot, Rob. We get a few of them around here but Squatter Pigeons are much more common (and Crested Pigeons, of course).

Very sharp, nice picture! I think that birding is very difficult.. I can never arrive enough close.

Thanks! I'd like to get a decent shot of a Squatter Pigeon too, but I haven't seen them in the ACT that I can recall. Plenty of Crested Pigeons.

I agree, it's not easy to get close to birds, which is why I was so happy to catch this one! Persistence - I don't have the time or patience to use a hide, so I just need to be happy with the rare times I can get close to a bird without it flying away too quickly.

The Squatter Pigeon does not range as far south as the ACT. But if you are ever up this way ..... (www.ballancar.com.au) .... (ignore prices - always hospitable to needy Pentaxians)

Yep, I know - I have seen them when I was elsewhere in Oz. Actually I seem to recall seeing them on the GDR near Warwick.
