I had an absolute blast meeting this little guy today. Although I now have to sterilize two of my props (a furry pillow and Mongolian faux fur rug) after they were officially marked as his territory (along with a wall and Mommy's hand while he was getting changed), I think last week's session with Logan was a success!
All with the K-5 IIs and off-camera flash (1x 110cm octa and/or 1x stripbox) at 1/180s (X-sync mode) and ISO 80.
There was a good bit of processing (Lightroom, Topaz Clarity, Topaz Remask, and Photoshop Elements), and I've come to also be really glad that I got Topaz Remask when it was $29 as it made getting a solid black background really easy when necessary, and doing so in a way that didn't look artificial.
1) I'm a big fan of baby/parent eye contact images, so I capitalized on it as much as possible
DA* 55, f/2,2
2) Part of a mental shot-list, I had wanted to get a top-down image of them framing the image with the baby in between
DA* 16-50, 39mm, f/3.5
3) I had seen this image before and mentioned we should try it. They were game, which was great - it took a LONG time to get him in a deep enough sleep to let us do this lol.
This one took the most amount of processing - turned the background to solid black and gave them manicures lol
DA* 16-50, 43mm, f/4.0
4) I am personally not a fan of this image, but they are in love with the pirate theme they have going on for him, so whatever
DA* 16-50, 31mm, f/20
5) My favorite of the color images. I love the contrast of the blue blanket.
DA* 16-50, 22mm, f/3.2
6) A favorite of theirs - "He always has his hands up over his mouth!"
DA* 16-50, 19mm, f/5.0
7) Can't have a newborn shoot without dad kissing mom on the forehead
DA* 16-50, 28mm, f/5.0
8) How awesome is his expression!
DA* 55, f/2.2
9) Another of my favorites. I made the background solid black and think it looks like a clean mask.
DA* 16-50, 39mm, f/3.5
10) Almost missed this one because she was playing with him before we actually started shooting. So glad I had everything ready for shot.
DA* 16-50, 50mm, f/14
11) So frail
DA* 16-50, 50mm, f/7.1
12) I have dubbed this one "Howler Baby" lol
DA* 55, f/2.5
13) Saving the best for last - by far and away my favorite image of the shoot:
DA* 55, f/1.4
Hope you enjoyed these
Oh, and after a good run through a delicate cycle in the washing machine, the rug and pillow are effectively sterilized
