Day One outting with the K20D
Posted By: SCGushue, 05-24-2008, 06:25 PM

I bought the K20D the other day when it kinda hit that 1K magical number. Too bad I didn't wait a day and get another magical 100 off to make it an even better deal.

I am pretty impressed right off the bat with the improvment in AWB, even the Live Mode as it is, is usefull for tripod work. In my opinion it is a quantum leap above the wonderful K10D.

Here are a few images from a walk through my favorite hiking area.

Hi Stephen
Congratulations on the new camera.
I will be particularly interested in your thoughts on the DA* 16-50. I also have the K20D and am using my Sig 24mm f1.8 as a walk around lens.

These shots look great. Thanks for posting.
Grant.

Have always, always enjoyed your waterfall images... beautiful!!!

Of course, your other work is great, but man you really seem to nail the waterfall images so, so well.

Marc

Congrats on the new camera Stephen. Beautiful series and I see why you like this spot to hike. My favourites of the group are 3,4 but all are excellent.

Beautiful photos Stephen. You live in a nice area. With a bathroom renovation and a trip to Europe this year the I will not afford a K20 until it becomes a K30 or K40.

Cheers
Eddie
thanks Eddie. Long trip for you and the kids. Should be some nice pictures. And yeah, the renovations never end... so poor excuse not to upgrade.

First outing with my new K20D today.
Believe me - you do need the K20D!
See my images in POTW #12 post.
Huge jump up from the K100D.
Even a huge jump from the K10D at that Garth.

all could be hung on the wall. Nice work
You know Pat... in thirty years as a photographer I have only once hung a personal print on a wall... hope to change that some day.

Thanks Pat... you got me thinking. A dangerous thing!

When I bought my K10D early last spring that lens was first on my list to use in a drift boat on fishing trips but I've been hesitant to buy because of the problems. Now, after getting the 300/4, it will be awhile before I recover financially but I still would like this zoom. It looks to be spectacular when you get a good copy. Well, if you know how to bring out it's best, which you seem quite capable of SC:-).
Thank you. I will admit that it is a very good lens but I am still not happy with it @16-18mm. It will do decently at those readings but it is superb from 19 out.

It may be the new camera but I have a feeling the guy behind it has something to do with such stunning shots.
Susan... so very nice of you say such kind things. Thank you.

Bruce, always good to here from down-under. You guys should be getting some fall colors way down south I would imagine.

Grant, I have had two copies of the lens. I got the original one as soon as it came out. Ned Bunnell replaced this one for me. It is (being very critical here)good, not great, at 16-18mm. Very good to excellent from there out. Color and contrast are superb and focus is quick. Balances superbly on the K10D and K20D.
It is a bargain now that it has dropped at least 200 bucks since it came out.

Thank you for your comment Marc. Much appreciated. Well, this stuff is a reprieve from the technical photography I do daily. There are plenty of waterfalls here in the mountains (hills?) of PA. I am still not where I want to be in phtographing waterfalls but the journey, though physically challenging, is a pleasurable one.

Khardur, Thank you. Yes, a place that has the scent of nature and the sounds of the outdoors.

Peter,

A promise... If you ever come down to this area... you can be my guest, and I'll take you here. But if I come up to my family heritage there in Eastern Canada, you'll have to promise to show me some secret spots. Now, don't tell anyone.

Stephen, you really really know how to nail these waterfall shots, I've always enjoyed them. The detail in #2 is simply marvelous, tremendous job. I have already made the decision to wait for the K30D (or whatever it will be called) but these shots make me want to change my mind. Thanks!

NaCl(you certainly do great waterfalls but your other shots ain't bad either)H2O
