Scottish Festival
Posted By: J.Scott, 05-25-2008, 03:47 AM

A local group held a first-ever Scottish/Highland festival. It paled by comparison to other great Scottish events that go on about the Province, but every one has to have a beginning. My biggest disappointment came from the concessions; there wasn't a haggis or a bottle of Irn Bru to be found!
Four small pipe and drum bands marched in then there was a brief ceremony by local Parliamentarians and the deputy mayor.
No food - I left.

I don't know why they always trump the 'Highlands' of Scotland. We Scott's are of the Lowlands or Borders region but almost always get left out of the picture.
Enough cryin' - onto the pictures!

One of the pipe and drum bands.

A piper.

A small group of Vets representing Legion Branch 76 did a flag ceremony. This elderly gent was waiting patiently with his flag.

I can live without the haggis but no food at all? WTH is that about?

I like the shots, specially the band. Did you check under their kilts?

Thanks James. The energy came is short bursts interrupted by long-winded political speeches.

They had a few food vendors - hot dog, popcorn and the like and one selling Ukrainian pirogies. Just seemed weird not to have traditional Scottish or even English food. I'd wager that most folks that say they don't like haggis have not in fact tried it. Ah well - maybe next year will be bigger and better.

The bands were quite good although small in numbers. Nothing like a well tuned set of bagpipes to shake the cobwebs from your soul. And I'll not be checkin' under anyones kilt other than my own!

I have been to a large one also. It was a lot of fun.
