Non standard portraits
Posted By: danielchtong, 05-26-2008, 05:09 PM

I have just taken some portraits of cooperative subjects Sunday May 25. Lighting is public (so so) and at least I have the use of direct fill flash. Majority are done at around F3.2 - F3.5.

Do not look at the exif yet and give C&C as to why they are kind of non-standard

I cheated, but I won't give it away because I've shot portraits the same way.

I don't see anything non-standard about these at all, unless they all are amputees? I don't see any legs. But not sure what that would have to do with EXIF.

They are from long lens 200mm
Maxwell I know what you mean as your Tamron Di LD 70-300mm can do some close up portrait at its long range at around 200-250mm

Yep, the Tamron is a very good long portrait lens. I like shooting longer portraits enough to grab a Super-Tak 135/3.5 for that very reason. I like the Super-Tak 105/2.8 as well...

I don't think that is so non-standard. Don't lots of fashion photogs use long telephotos to get a very flat perspective?

I think Benjamin can answer that question for us.. if he should happen to drop by this here thread.

Apart from the use of an "unusual" focal length, I don't see what makes this shoot non-standard.

These are ok amateurish shots at best.

Just uploaded a couple of them . More like bokeh generating exercise I would say. The hit spot for pumping out the bokeh that I like is somewhere between F3.2 to F3.5

The last image must have shown a flat nose re the 'flatter perspective' theory
