All,

I got this pic today and I am looking on some feedback on what I could have done better?

I loved the colors and composition- it would be a perfect picture if the flower were just a bit sharper

That's a great shot. Maybe placing the flower in the lower left quadrant so that the critter has some space to jump into?

Thanks guys!

I am learning to work with the manual controls and I think I had the DOF a little to shallow after looking at some of the other pics that I took along with this one.

Ole,

I was having a hard time deciding between giving him space to jump into or showing the shadow of the flower in the lower left...

All,

Here it is with some room for the grasshopper to jump into... I also sharpened it a bit...

Well, the first one is better. Is it possible to keep the shadow and provide more "diagonal" space to the right and above (keeping the flower more or less on the diagonal)?

Ole,

This is the best that I can do. The right hand side is all the way to the edge and I don't have much more room at the top either.

Here are a couple of alternatives for discussion, I don't really know if I've gained anything, though.

I like the first crop - excellent composition IMO. However, the original is OOF and there's isn't much you can do to that.

No offence, just because we're shooting digital these days, it doesn't mean we have to jump in there and just shoot. Slow-down, take a deep breath, compose, focus and then shoot.

On the other hand, digital is GREAT for experimenting.

Hmm..

Are you sure it is out of focus, it doesn't appear so to me.. Here is a link to the fullsize pick with no PP except white balace correction.. There was some wind blowing the flower around so maybe it was moving when I shot it.. This time of year, you pretty much have to fight the wind to do anything..

feed back

I don't think it's out of focus, but because of the contrast and saturation and DOF mix it dose appear that way at first.

good Shooting.

I'd describe the sharpness as "soft." The pic is technically not blurry, but the rounded edges of the folower sure give the illusion, like Photo Tramp said.

Yeah, I would say it is soft. I tried sharpening it and it helps a bit, but not much without distorting other elements of the picture...

You're absolutely right - I stand corrected - it is NOT OOF.

I personally would have preferred in an image like that, to also have the flower sharper.
