Frogs of Ohio: Ohio's Frog and Toad Species

Yours is a 'True' frog. I'm not so familiar with the Southern Leopard, but yours has light edges on it's spots, so it should be ruled out so you're looking at a Pickerel or Northern Leopard. The Pickerel has squarish spots on the back vs. the Northern Leopards more random blobs. I can't tell for sure from your photo one way or the other (other major distinguishing feature is a yellow/orange under the thighs to indicate Pickerel).

Frog species are in some turmoil as direct DNA analysis is applied and finds significant differences where none was suspected

Looks like a leopard to me, pickerals generally have bigger, and fewer spots to the best of my knowledge

I would also lean towards leopard as the spots I can see don't look very squarish, but there is a great deal of variation in both species and I'm certainly more familiar with my local populations

For comparison with the latest batch of Leopard frogs, Here is a Pickerel Frog, no green coloration and squarer spots. I see lots of Pickerels in northern Delaware but have not seen a southern Leopard frog even though they are supposedly common here. It does not show in my picture but pickerels have yellow on the belly near and under their hind legs. I think they may also have a shorter snout than leopards.
