A photographer's day in Oslo
Lens: A lot. Camera: Pentax K-3 Photo Location: Oslo, Norway ISO: 400
Posted By: ZoeB, 01-31-2015, 06:47 AM

So I had a day in Oslo yesterday. For me, it's a big city that i don't know very well, and my appointment at the embassy only took about an hour, so what did I spend all day doing? Photographing the streets, of course! (Actually, I did work a little and have some truly excellent pie.

The entire set can be found on my flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/128386266@N08/sets/72157650505577396/

Here are a few of my favourites!

A really strong set--the middle two are my favorites, the one incredibly dynamic with the pigeons in the background, the next almost surreal (and cold!) with the human figures on the horizon.

Thanks!

Yeah, the one with the pigeons is my favourite too. I got really lucky with the amazing light, and the flock of birds that kept startling and circling around, so I had several chances to get the shot just right

2 and 3 really stand out. I was in Oslo in summertime and yet found the light really bad for photography (too dull).
Great ambient on the Opera roof; was it windy? I froze my ass off in mid-August there.

You need to focus your physics studies on optics - thus this would all be considered lab work. If there was still scope for doing darkroom work, you'd have your chemistry labs all set too.

Yeah, that grey dull light when there's an impenetrable layer of clouds overhead isn't great for photography, and we certainly get a lot of it.

It wasn't particularly windy, and a sort of mildly chilly day.

I'm planning on focusing on rocket technology and aurora studies-- so going out to shoot the northern lights basically is field work :P

Hopefully using cameras mounted to helium balloons to get above much of the atmosphere, and some really, really powerful remote triggers

Love 2 and 3. I really like how it captures the scandinavian winter perfectly!

Nice shots. I like the footprints in the "snow" of the third image.
