First insect macro
Posted By: Ash, 05-29-2008, 04:03 PM

I'd been trying to get a good capture of moving critters and came up with this.
Straight out of camera using FA 100/2.8 macro.
C&C welcome.

Welcome to the wonderful world of BUGS... nice first macro. Love the colors and I am very fond of the way your lens rendered that background. I could not read the exif so what were your settings, especially F stop? Handheld? No flash?

Cant wait to see more...

Thanks Gus,

Has been challenging since I mainly do it handheld (as this one was)...
ambient light, f/16 at 1/200sec and ISO 640 (as I recall).

I reckon having a willing subject is more than half the battle - this bee was rummaging into this flower for a while, giving me enough time to steady my hand and get focus right...

Super job on this hand held shot. I have also been trying to get moving insects, I must throw away 20 out of every one I keep. Well seen and captured.

You and me both Diane.
Very hard to get focus right with such shallow DOF.

Thanks James, it's certainly a keeper and quite a challenge to master...
