Aussie bar in northern hemisphere
Posted By: gawan, 05-30-2008, 04:41 PM

Yes, there is an aussie bar in northern hemisphere! Here you see the evidence! But can you see what the northern location has done to it

You are welcome to a relaxing and easy going place, just remember, DO NOT were a tie!

James, your Carlton Draught is up there with them in terms of sales. From Wikipedia:

While popular in many countries, particularly where it is brewed locally, Foster's Lager does not enjoy widespread popularity in Australia. As a bottled beer produced by the Foster's Group (formerly the Carlton United Beverages group (CUB)) it is rarely promoted in Australia. Once a "premium" brand, Foster's Lager has been bypassed in favour of the Foster's Group's favoured premium brands of Carlton Crown Lager and Stella Artois.

Australians are parochial about their beers; few beers are popular Australia wide. The top selling beers in each state are:
New South Wales
Tooheys
Victoria Bitter
Queensland
XXXX
Victoria Bitter
Tooheys
South Australia
Coopers
West End
Southwark
Tasmania
Cascade Draught
Boags Draught
Victoria
Victoria Bitter
Carlton Draught
Melbourne Bitter
Western Australia
Swan

Two words Steve: Victoria Bitter.

Give me a Fosters over that swill any day of the week please.
Cheers.
I'd rather have Tassie beers (cascade, Boags) than anything local, crownies excepted

Fosters may be better than VB, but they still both taste crap

U blokes must have ruined ur taste buds on fancy pant beers.
XXXX is easily one our greatest beers. Just dont ask a victorian (VB - bit like there weather, horrible) or a tasmanian ( Boags is just bottled Tamar river water).

No I'm not biased cos I'm not in queensland but u really cant beat a 4X ona hot day down the beach.

Settle -- no need to get personal. We were discussing beers, Fritz.

From a non-beer-drinker, I think the Aussies are more serious about their beer than the Canucks.

You're not talking about Fosters, surely? When did you last see an Aussie drinking that? It's basically an export beer heavily promoted by F1 sponsorship and advertising, and in fact is brewed in some overseas countries. The Fosters brewed in England for instance is totally different to the local stuff (still pretty bad though).

And XXXX... yikes. Sorry.
Good that we got that cleared Thanks for the other info...

They have this "Toohey's", is it okay?

I wouldn't feed "Toohey's" to the sheep in a drought, haha!

Some of our boutique beers are worth seeking out, Redback, Beezneez, James Boag etc. Coopers Pale Ale is a nice drop and Crown Larger is probably one of the best known commercial beers served in most restaurants,

good to know there is a watering hole if I ever get up there!

Could be very difficult to find overseas. But I've heard of specialist pubs in Belgium for example that claim over 400 beers on the range, so maybe...

Happy hunting, Georg! I wonder how many different brands of beer there are worldwide?
