Glen canyon
ISO: 50
Posted By: Mallee Boy, 02-25-2015, 10:45 PM

I had to chuckle looking at Bob's effort with his Monument valley shot, only because I had been going through some old files yesterday and tickled up a couple for printing. Unfortuneatley I can not claim any extra help from Merlot or Shiraz...it was the middle of the day...and in the shop, so probably not a good look.
Any way, a different take on Glen Canyon.

First though....a bottom up view....sort of makes you think when you know that the water level on the other side was near capacity.

I do like this treatment, not everyones glass of Merlot, but it appeals to me. Another one similar had both its fans & detractors in the shop, looks great on a 800mm wide canvas.

A favourite of mine, purely f8 well..7.1... and being there with the camera pointed in the right direction; the other 50 or so photographers were all looking at a much more severe storm off to the right....and missed it.

The lightning is excellent, just great. The composition of the river shot is great also, but I feel the HDR is overdone. For the first one, I know it's not always possible but a centered, symmetrical composition would have worked better.

Thanks for looking.
A couple more of the bridge, no tricks on these.

I love your 1st photo (1st post) and last photo (2nd post). I like less than HDR.

Thank you for posting.

Nice shots. I like the HDR but I'm a fan of Trey Ratcliff and it has that feel to it. The Lightning one too.

Merlot or Not, I really enjoyed viewing your photos Grant. My Grandfather worked on the construction of the dam in '60 and '61 and I spent part of the summers in Page staying with him and got to visit the site before it was completed. The downriver photos are really great, did you take the old bridge crossing to take them? I think the HDR shot is especially good and the lightning shot should be framed. Thanks for posting and back to the Merlot for me.

Thanks for dropping by folks. Page is a good base for a few days, a lot to do and see. I had wanted to see the Wave, but thats not going to happen now.
The river float is worth doing, very relaxing.
Bob....glad there is a connection there; wonderful people those engineers and contsruction crews in that era, must have been a tough existence.

Hey Grant - there are some terrific compositions here and the color and clarity are wonderful. Good stuff, my friend.
