Spring Jewel, pano
Posted By: little laker, 06-01-2008, 07:08 PM

I made it up to Jewel Lake, British Columbia yesterday, and it was beautiful there.
So I captured a spring pano, almost worthy of the title Spring Jewel

Beautiful scene, capturing a warm sense of peace and rest. Personally, I would have walked out to the end of the jetty and shot from there - I think the foreground tree stops the eye from sweeping up to the valley in the background and the intrusion of the jetty is a bit distracting, IMHO.

Thanks Wombat, it's actually part 3 in a 4 part series
Since you and several other newer members haven't seen them, I'll post the first 2.

Here's #1, Autumn Jewel

And #2, Winter Jewel

I hope that everyone enjoys them

Thanks for that. I did hesitate a bit before commenting. I thought, "Anyone who's had 3,778 posts surely knows exactly what he's doing and why." Love the other shots. Are you intending eventually to present them all as a "Four Seasons" project?

Nice work on the pano as always Stu. The first two seasons you posted looks like they were taken more or less from the same spot. This one is slightly different. Seeing the buildings off on the right hand side does give it a different feel then the others.

Thanks Wombat,

For the most part if you see someone with lots of posts on this board you can feel free to ask them for any advice needed.
The chances are that they'll be both friendly and helpful

Your right, I really don't know how I'll do it yet, but my plans are to have a 4 season set. I might somehow shop them together into one

Thanks Fred,
It's probably the first pano I've done in over 2 months

You were right, the first 2 were done from prettywell the same spot. I actually parked there this time.
It was a tough decision, but I thought the OLD dock was a better location for this one.

Great Pano, I would like to see more of the jetty, with someone on it, fishing.

nice panos Stu, really has that cottage feeling!
my favourite is the Autumn Jewel, very nice colours. my only criticism is in the first photo there's a bit of a dock that kinda sticks out.

Gorgeous panoramas

Question - what did you use to stitch them together?

Thanks Sergei,
There's a good chance that Summer Jewel will have that fisher in it.
It's a very popular fishing resort lake.

Thanks k100d,
I really wanted the dock in there, and it was pretty well the best spot to take this one from.
Although I already forget what I was limited by.

Thanks Kim,
There's a good chance that you'll get to see the place first hand when you make it up this summer

That fall shot was really a big stroke of luck. It was a rather cloudy day, and I really didn't think that I'd see any blue sky.
However I had cabin fever, so I drove up to the lake just to get away for a while.

I drove to the far side of the lake, and got a couple of closeups, but nothing special, then when I was heading back I decided that I wanted to stop in the local cafe for a beer.

Well, as I was parking the sky cleared up to what you see, so I grabbed out the old K100D, and took a landscape photo.
I then decided that the conditions were perfect for a pano, and I was right

I then went into the cafe for that beer, 1/2 finished it when I suddenly remembered that I had a couple of prescription pain killers a 1/2 hour before.
So I shouldn't drink anything.

I then headed outside, and the sky was cloudy again. SO I went home.

It's the only time that I've ever made the mistake of having alcohol shortly after taking my prescription, and if I wouldn't have made that mistake this series would have never happened.

Thanks Axl,
We all live in beautiful places, the only real difference is the way we view it

Thanks Dan,

I've had really good luck with Autostitch, so it's what I use.
Although others have had problems with it, and chose something else because of them.

I'm a firm believer that you should learn how to stitch them together on your own with something like photoshop before you use another program to do the work for you.
That way you'll have more insite on what does and does not work, and are less likely to make a big mistake at a bad time.
