Christmas Cove
Posted By: Wombat, 06-02-2008, 12:25 AM

This is a small cove near where I live. It's a great place to photograph at dusk. Inside the cove is usually flat calm and outside it can be anything from calm to boiling, raging gale-tossed mayhem, depending on the season. From this angle I like the play of verticals, diagonals and the flat horizon.
I think I sharpened it a bit too much - especially visible in the boat canopy.
All comments welcome.

I'm not sure about the sharpening but I'd like to see it in B&W. There's not a lot of color in it anyway. What I really like about it is the contrast between the geometric straight lines of the slips and the headlands across the way. Nice shot and it looks like a beautiful area.

NaCl(of course anything with salt water in it is a good shot! )H2O

H20 expressed my exact sentiments. This is a lovely image. I think it would be a wonderful candidate for B/W.

Thanks for that. Here's a grayscale and a threshold rendering. What do you think? I don't know how this would come out in PS, as I don't have it. This was done in Gimp.

Thanks, mate. Some fabulous shots on your web site. And I totally agree with the practice of taking some photos every day. It's like doing scales and arpeggios on an instrument - the only way to go if you want to improve. I also like your blog where you limit yourself to a 50mm lens. Excellent discipline.
