Night lightning
Lens: Sigma 18-125 DC HSM Camera: K-x Photo Location: East Pilbara, Western Australia ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: Above 6s Aperture: F13.5
Posted By: ranmar850, 03-02-2015, 03:07 PM

Last night, a fast-developing storm gave me a short window of opportunity--this was the last capture before I had to run for cover from the rain.my normal aperture of f5.6 @ ISO 200 resulted in completely blown images--ended up at F13 and ISO100 for the 20 sec exposure.PP in LR with no saturation tweaks, some cropping ( focal length), highlights, exposure and clarity. The colour is as shot. enjoy.

Up to now, I thought that if you'd seen one photo of lightning, you'd seen 'em all - but this shot changes that thinking completely. What an amazing, compelling shot - the lightning streak seems to be a living thing. Amazing stuff.

Thanks for the kind replies. Lightning fascinates me--I'm getting better at it, but you can't do anything other than make the best of the chance that nature offers . We can get a lot of thunderstorms where I work in summer, but it doesn't always translate to good photos. Last year? Got maybe one night. This year has been quite a rich vein, with my first ever lightning capture in a panorama, https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/12-post-your-photos/287922-night-another-lightning-moon.html then another one 15 minutes later. And that was only because I stopped to try to capture the rising moon, because the February contest tile was "moonscapes". You just have to capture the moment.
