That's some pretty cool shots! Which kind of light did you use?

Very nice bug photos, old4570.

Regarding the flash set-up you're using, what is the name of that item you have inserted in the hotshoe of the camera, along with the short wire connecting it to the flash, and can you point me toward a source for it? I have a Vivitar TTL cable that connects to the flash shoe that is great for getting the flash off of the camera, but it's bulky with a two-foot long coiled cable that always seems to be in the way if used for macro shooting.

I've been using the FlashQ wireless system for my off camera flash to eliminate the wires and it works great. Check out the post on my experiences with it in the Flash sub-forum if you're interested. THe FlashQ designers are also crowd-funding for a wireless flash that looks like a winner for macro use.

Thanks, old4570. I'll have to order one today. I'll also pick up a light weight ball head for the flash bracket and the appropriate cable.

Hornet, I've tried using inexpensive flash triggers and they work well if the flash is used off camera as you mentioned. But, when used on a flash bracket it gets unwieldy, for me at least, when I couple together a flash, triggger, and umbrella holder (for adjusting the angle of the flash).
