The set up... waiting for the little critters to come.....

Two at once woo hoo

A few more images of the stars of the show....

Augmented by the supporting cast, something to do while the stars are preparing for their appearances..

Superb photos, Norm. You always manage so produce some extremely sharp images. The pine martins look really cute, but me thinks they can be pretty ornery if and when the situation demands it!

Great shots of the pine martins and supporting cast of birds. The martins seem curious about the photographer! Thanks for sharing.

What cute little critters those martens are. Always enjoy seeing your birds too. I could do without the snowy background for sure but it sure makes for a nice backdrop. The Rose-breasted Nuthatch (?) is a beauty.

I was shooting this most of these with the F-70-210, and not even at full reach for many of them. They look when you get to close, otherwise they ignore you. All he's thinking is, "Is it time to go higher up the tree where this big slow creature can't get me."

They always want to know how close we are going to come.

I have to do the birder thing... it's a red breasted nut-hatch...
The first one I took a picture of I called it an Orange Breasted Nuthatch
A birder asked me why I called it that, I said "Because it has an orange breast."
He got all snippy and said "Well that's not it's name."
To which I responded, "why would you birders call a bird with an orange breast, Red Breasted".
He just looked at me disgustedly and went on his way. I felt like the great unwashed heathen.

Well I am, but hey !!!
He didn't have to look at me like that... snob.

Great response but some birders just don't have a sense of humor.

Not only that, there are a lot of wannabe birders that don't know as much as they think they do, and stick to incorrect identifications even when corrected. But, over all they are helpful. I don't know about a lot of birds, but I know the ones I photograph quite well.

Looks like a lot of fun. Love the shot of you all bundled up and ready for action! The head shot through the trees is my favorite of the pine martens. Nice colors, sharp where it needs to be and framed to some extent by the tree limbs around him.

Yes, but everyone posts a picture that looks like that... the others have more character.
