Bee on a Wire
Posted By: Buddha Jones, 06-03-2008, 10:12 AM

This is a close I wanted to get to this little guy. I was further away than this shows, about 15 feet. This is a 100% crop using the DA*200mm.

Wow...

15 ft away and a 100% crop... that is quite a lens and quite a shot.

How long have you had the lens?

Nice photo and impressive quality, and you did use K10D not K20D?

I would say from 10-15ft, there are a few things that terrify me and bees are one of them so I know I wasn't close. I have had the lens pretty much since it was released in the US.

Excellent capture, the detail is fantastic. I understand your not wanting to get too close, they can pack a wallop of a sting.

By coincidence I got some bee shots today. And also with a brand new lens, a bargain purchase of a Sigma 70-300mm APO. Feels odd being a prime fan to use both a zoom and a telephoto, but it is light and easy to handle. Feels a bit cheap -- it's no limited!

This was at 190mm 1/180s f/8. Not sure how I got below 200mm since I swore I was in macro mode. Yes, it was a large bee. Some editing saved a slightly over-exposed image.
