Stray...Chicken!
Lens: Sigma 17-70 2.8 HSM OS Camera: K5IIs Photo Location: Woods of Otis-Texas ISO: 50 Shutter Speed: 1/200s Aperture: F5.6

I've had stray cats galore, doggies too.......raccoons, possums, armadillos and a billion squirrels around her over the years, but this is my first stray chicken. He came early this morning and has been out there pecking away all day! Squirrels think he is a "ground hawk" and are not at all happy at his presence......I kind of like him myself!

Someone said he is a Rock Island Red? I'm not really up to snuff on my chickens?
He is a handsome specimen!

Otis did ask if they had a "nutty flavor"? Nope...they taste just like chicken!

Regards!

Looks like a Rhode Island Red to me Rupert. I used to raise this breed, good egg producer of the brown type.

you do have a way with photographing those Texas "chics" Rupert, all of them are beautiful in their own way.

I think that is either a rhode island or new hampshire red, my next door neighbor has a new hampshire red and he looks very much like your photo.

I think I might have eaten part of his cousin for lunch yesterday - I hope he doesn't come my way seeking revenge!

Thanks all! He is still out there this morning! Mrs Rupert came in from work yesterday and gave him a bowl of water and he followed her an hour as she worked in the yard. He may just decide to stick around?

Shot through my office window at about 60 feet...love my Bigma and my new fast focusing and accurate K5IIs!

I have a problem with stray cats around here.....not a stray cat in sight now...this guy fears nothing! If you saw those big sharp talons, you would know why! I bet he would fear my big cast iron skillet???

Regards!

Maybe he is just on lay-over on the way to Key West? Is he an alarm clock in the morning? Are you sure he tastes like chicken? Has Otis been buying early halloween costumes? So many questions?

So few answers Susan! I just heard Missy Squirrel looking down at the big red rooster a few minutes ago as he strutted by the fence line and I heard her say ..."Damn! That's one big chicken!"

Reckon how many chicken tenders he would make at KFC?

Regards!
