Hello All,

I am for a long time searching for a Buzzard who let me come close enought to make some nice pictures from him!

I am driving every saturday arround to shoot some birds and I came home and emptied my memory card and was thinking let me drive and take some shots in the late sun! I drove arround in a place where some buzzards and kestrels are and I did not saw any. When I wanted to turn the car in a dead end I looked left and saw a Buzzard at a .......

I stopped the engine and turned the window a little bit down! The buzzard didn't moved so I took the lens (the 600mm one ) and pointed to the buzzard and sjeess he is not fitting into the frame!!!! Turned the camera and he fitted into the frame . I shoot so many shots that my arm hurts from the weight from the lens and camera

Ofcource I made als a shot from a Robin

Tafted duck

Comorant in breeding colors (not full colors yet)

Grey Heron in top of the tree thinking it is breeding time (it is middle winter here)

I hope you like them!

regards Walter

Beautiful photos, but I still can't get how you can come that close to the birds, and with such a huge lens!

I like the duck photo the most because of the beautiful reflection, but the first one is also nice. Great work!

Walter, this lens is a real killer. Your continuous endeavour earns you these amazing photos.

Like what Adam said, the duck photo has the most dramatic bokeh as I have seen in a telephoto shot. While buzzard is rare and hard to get close by, the shot is clear and sharp well centred in the frame. A good shot.

Do you fix your lens on the top of your car or you literally move the tripod along with this 5 kg lens with your bare hands. That would be a bit handful for sure. I could not even bear my 3.2 kg lens for that long on a country side like that.

Thank you for sharing these photos.

Thank you all for those nice comments

@xecutech: Yes it is a European Buzzard (scientific name: Buteo buteo)

@roentarre: This lens weights 3.3 kilo and camera 0.8 kilo so thats makes 4 kilo.
I am sitting in my car and using a beanbag (not yet but something simulair). So I wait and wait and wait till Something gets in sight.

At the moment I am looking arround for a tripod stil not decided what to buy

These are great bird shots. I've seen window clamp type camera/spotting scope mounts. I wonder if one of those might suit your type of shooting?

Congrats on your first buzzard! A great shot indeed. That 4th one would make a great friendship card, it looks as if it's trying to put its arm (wing) on the others shoulder

Hmmmm, well the buzzards here in the states are uglier than that. I will try to post a pic soon.

#1 is fantastic...

And I REALLY love the composition/reflections on #3... sweet photo Walter... that's worthy of a print and frame...

I also enjoyed the others - great images as usual...

Great reach and I see why you love that focal length! My "600/5.6" isn't quite as imposing, since it's an FA* 300/2.8 w/Pentax-A 2X-S rear converter...

Cheers,
Marc
