at the pool tournament
Lens: da* 50-135 Camera: k3 ISO: 3200 Shutter Speed: 1/320s Aperture: F2.8

a group of my friends play on a pool team. i used to play on it as well, but work has prevented me from playing recently.

today was the tournament, they won their group and a trip to las vegas to play in that tournament as well. really proud of them.

i took my camera, but knew lighting would be almost impossible. the tournament is played in a conference hall and while the lighting over the tables is great, the rest isn't. it's really tough.

i think all of these are at iso3200, i don't really know how to deal with noise in post, so i think a few of them are a bit pastel-y?

i'm still happy with them. i think i captured the mood ok.

The second image made me laugh. Very nice series. Have you tried shooting when the balls are moving. The movement blur could make an interesting shot.

Yeah, but it's really difficult to do. The players tend to move a lot after the shot, so freezing the shooter while showing motion with the balls is a bit of a task. This was my first time taking pictures at an event like this. If I were to do it again there are a few things I'd try

Maybe you could ask one of your friends to hold still after taking a warm-up shot. It would be fun to experiment when you get the chance.

yeah i didn't have that luxury yesterday.

i also didn't really have access to get good shots of the breaks. they really hit it hard for those, would make for a good shot. but they always break away from the audience, for obvious reasons.

for the most part, good players don't hit it very hard, except on breaks.

You've captured the atmosphere very well! And a little noise is not disturbing at all, at least not for me.
Great series!

Thanks guys.

It looks like I'll get to go to Vegas with these guys. Will probably only be able to take one lens. So the 50-135 will probably get the call. Should be a decent walkabout for Vegas as well
