Weekend's harvest: macro + memorial hall
Posted By: roentarre, 02-03-2007, 11:51 PM

1. These eyes popped out!

1/180s f/8.0 at 200.0mm iso100 full exif

I attempted this so many times - it moves too much. I did this handheld. The butterfly was just too active, going from flower to flower. My sigma flash was used but it did not turn out too well. I also used Lastolite reflector around 45 degrees from diagonal right...

2. Inclined angle (the same one)

I was basicly lying on the ground trying to look up. Not that close to it in case it flew away.

1/180s f/8.0 at 200.0mm iso100 full exif

3. Another attempt but eyes not in focus (if the eyes are in focus, the face would be out of focus - a Dilemma)

4. A lucky catch

5. Inside memorial hall (Fa 77 ltd) Handheld SR

1/20s f/2.0 at 77.0mm iso400 full exif

6. The roof geometry (Da 14) Hand held SR

1/10s f/2.8 at 14.0mm iso400 full exif

7. War (Fa77)

1/60s f/1.8 at 77.0mm iso400 full exif

8. Dinner table

9. Memorial Hall

10. Flower (Sigma 50-500)

1/250s f/6.7 at 500.0mm iso400 full exif

Thanks for looking. C&C welcomed

These are great shots James, but I liked the indoor memorial shots the best.

Long time no see, Scott.

I was kind of struggling to find angles to take shots inside the hall. Everywhere is so dark and space was rather limited. That is where Da14 and ltd lenses are used.

Cheers

3,4,6,7 photos have good potential... (at me first seven photos have opened only)
5-n the photo is difficult for estimating, as "sculptures" far, and the general composition is displaced...

I tried to log into your website regarding macro shots techniques. There is not much there...

I know what you meant by poor composition. Will keep it in mind

macro and other shots

Hi James!

Looks like you're encountering the dilemma of macro work... which part to focus on when you're close up!

I really like what that lens can do - and if I can help out with macro suggestions, etc. I'll be glad to share my relatively meagre knowledge. I just went out and shot a lot of photos...

However, butterflies (especially dark ones, grrr) can be horrible subjects to photograph.

Regards,
Marc

Hi Marc

Big sigh ... the depth of field is a bit too tough for me. Butterflies hardly stopped long enough for me to manual focus. Their eyes do not seem to be composed of discreet bits but a pane of ground glass that does not have much detail to start with.

Using tripod is just frightening them away.

If you look at the 3rd photograph, I wonder whether I should focus on the eyes or the hair which is closest to photographer?

Thanks Marc

Hi!

I am not engaged in a macrophoto. Simply on my site there is a link to a site where there is an inexpensive program for macrophotos.
(button " New ", an inscription " Interesting sites ", an inscription "P", the button "next", the link " Helicon products ")
The program refers to " Helicon Focus "

New collection

Liked the "Memorial Hall" shot. As for those little critters - the buggers refuse to pose for a photograph!

Thanks
