Storm's End
Lens: FA 31 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Lake Jackson, TX ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/60s Aperture: F8
Posted By: Sailor, 04-20-2015, 12:01 PM

At the end of a week of thunderstorms, two of which were strong enough to take down one of our trees and festoon our back yard with big branches, I shot this photo. The week cost me 800 bucks to clean up after the first storm and about two days of labor to clean up after the second one.

Since I'm retired and because my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter have moved to the suburbs west of Houston, we're thinking of leaving Lake Jackson and buying a smaller house with a low maintenance yard close to where they live. If we do move, I'll look at any house with big trees with suspicion.

A beautiful shot Jer, but I can understand your thoughts ... I have just spent a few days with the chainsaw to remove two (big) trees that were brought down by a severe storm two weeks ago!
Take it easy my friend.

Nice shot Jer. Strong storms seem to be the norm these days. Our HOA has been notified that our insurance company has dropped us and we're having a heckuva time finding new coverage.

Nice capture. Like you I am starting to think trees are over-rated.

but the trees keep the mind busy thinking of things to do around the house, like cleaning up after the trees.

Nice shot! And ditto what Bob said. I've got huge golden willows around the house and they shed like the dog in the wind.

Beautiful capture Jer. It hardly makes up for the annoyance but perhaps

Mother Nature was trying to make amends.

Hey, buddy, thanks much. I'm sorry to hear you lost a couple of trees - I know that's a lot of work!

Thank you, Steve. I hear you about losing insurance. After paying premiums for 17 years with not one claim, State Farm dropped our windstorm coverage forcing us to get insurance via the state's windstorm insurance system. That increased my premiums a couple of grand a year!

Thanks - glad you liked the pic. I'm believing that trees are analogous to sailboats - it's better to have a friend with trees than to have a tree yourself.

. . . . . . . . which means I can't be out cruising or taking pictures!

Thanks for looking. And I feel your pain.

Thanks very much, Tom. The sky certainly put on a nice show as the sun came out.

Gorgeous shot Jer but it most likely didn't make up for the pain of the storms. Glad you made it through OK though. A nice condo with someone to mow the lawn and take care of al those irritating things that pop up. Sounds great Jer. Get a spare bedroom for Otis.

Susan, I appreciate it. That condo sounds nice, indeed.
