Lady Slippers

We were surprised to find the Lady Slippers in abundance this year. Always a treat to discover them hiding the woods, especially the yellow ones that seem so elusive.

Nice shot of the pink and yellow Lady's Slippers. It is a great time to be in the Smokies. I'm can't be there this year so would like to see more of your photos from the Smokies.

Thanks so much. We try to go every year but other travels have kept us away for the last couple of years. I will be posting more shots of the area soon.

There are so many people hunting for wildflowers now that you can find your way to almost any variety you are interested in. I am glad to see that flower photographers are also protecting the habitats where the flowers go.

So true and that is why I didn't ask where you found the Lady Slippers. I have seen then damaged or dug up and as a result the plants are lost.

Beautiful, and what a complex flower. They look a bit like orchids but they are not orchids I think?
See you,

You are right Igor, they are orchids. Wish my skills could do them justice.

Nice stuff, Susan. I've not seen flowers like this for a long time - I don't think I ever new what they were called, so my education continues.

We drive ourselves crazy trying to identify flowers and just when we think we know what one was someone comes along and lets us know we were wrong. I do enjoying seeing the different varieties though even if I don't know their names.
