Black Vulture - not the "red headed" one !
Lens: DA*300/4 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Québec ISO: 320 Shutter Speed: 1/1500s Aperture: F5.6

While searching for the migratory hawks, I came upon this Black Vulture, seldom seen/observed in our region.
Quite a sight !

Becoming pretty regular here in my area, not as many as the TVs of course but they are here. We've gotten them in fall migration counts from further north in the last few years as well.

Interesting.
Here where we are they are classified as "rare birds".

Common birds here. I rarely see the turkey vultures though.

So, it seems that we (here) are not used to see those too often.

Indeed, we are quite a long way from its usual habitat.

We get both here in large amounts. Love to watch them soar. They sure can take advantage of the updrafts. Nice shot.

What a terrific photo. It looks rather majestic when flying - I always think of these things as ugly.

They do have a majestic flight/soaring pattern.

Let's just say that they are not my "favorite" birds but they look great with their large wingspan.
