Lens: 100mm 2.8 Macro Pentax Camera: K5IIs Photo Location: Saugus Ma. ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/160s Aperture: F8

The ruby throated hummingbirds are used to me now and I decided to try and get a real close up shot from 3ft away with the 100mm macro lens. I waited for 10 minutes and was not disappointed. He didn't even mind the flash. What a ham.--charliezap

Thank Dave. When shooting that close the area of prime focus is very shallow hence his head is a bit unsharp but I have the whole Summer to get it right.--charliezap

Wonderful image Charlie, we have no hummers around here, maybe I'll see some in Waterton in June.

Thanks Dave. The Hbirds are easier to shoot than other birds since they hover in one place. My main problem is getting the focus where it should be especially when I'm really close.--charliezap

I love the colours. I also like that your hunting technique is the same as mine - patience!
