It's been months since I had time to stop by here, so I missed the chance to show you some of our early spring East Tennessee wildflowers. Well, "better late than never…"
It was a wonderfully cool and wet early spring here in Northeast Tennessee, a fine one for the spring ephemerals. Here's a few Bloodroot blooms - a common flower of the rich woodlands.
Many folks confuse these with bloodroot. Twinleaf is even more ephemeral and delicate than bloodroot, and also much less common.
Dutchman's Britches flowers are popular with the bumblebees - and with the flower photographers too!
Here's a less common cousin of the Dutchman's Britches, called Wild Bleeding Heart.
Hepatica and Toothwort are among our earliest spring wildflowers…
As is Trout Lily…
Dwarf Crested Iris blooms a bit later, and for a longer part of the season.
But Willow flowers sure don't last very long at all…
And, of course, ferns don't bloom, but don't they have interesting patterns as they unroll! This is a Christmas Fern fiddlehead.
Hope you enjoyed some glimpses of the early season blooms. Thanks for your comments & critique!
