Tall Dutch Ships
Posted By: Kerrowdown, 05-19-2015, 01:03 PM

"The Flying Dutchman" (registered Amsterdam) and a solitary cloud, passed through the Caledonian Canal today, what caught my eye was the sheer amount of ropes involved.

I once sailed from Oban to Inverness via the Caledonian canal on a similar ship, it's quite an experience sailing through the mountains of Scotland watching Golden Eagles flying overhead instead of empty seas with seagulls for company.

Nicely done. I never know how to photograph ships, or trees.

Interesting POV of a sailing ship. I wonder if all the lines are so the sailors don't have to climb the masts to unfurl the sheets?

That would have been quite a trip I'm sure.

The biggest vessel to go the full length of the Caledonian Canal is now I believe is the MV Lord of The Glens, 727 Tonnes, 45.7m length and 10.5m width. Trust me she has to breath in to get through the Fort Augustus locks.

Usually I just try and capture the bit that initially catches my eye.

You could well be right... I was waiting for Sailor to comment, I believe he knows about such things.
