The Old Sugar Plant
Posted By: Colorado CJ, 05-19-2015, 08:59 PM

I just finished drying this negative and scanning it in. This is the old sugar plant in my home town. There are these sugar plants stretching along the front range. Most are now abandoned as they beets are processed somewhere else. This old plant is still going though. I'll need to get a shot of the actual buildings soon.

I used some front tilt to focus on just the train cars and buildings.

Taken with a Zone VI 4x5 and Kodak Ektar 203mm F7.7 lens. Shot on Foma 200 film rated at 120 and developed in Pyrocat MC for 8.5 minutes.

Interesting! Is this a recent photo? What is a Zone VI 4x5?

Nice to look at. It's got that smooth milky look that only great BW's can have.

Yes, I shot it on Saturday and developed/scanned it in yesterday.

The Zone VI is a 4x5 Field camera (think Ansel Adams).

Here's mine.

Thanks for including the photo of the camera. I have never seen one before. That is a fantastic shot by the way. The downward tilt sure made the train cars predominate.

My dad worked at GW Sugar nearly all his career. I've seen many sugar plants and this one sure looks familiar!!! As a kid, I lived in Ft Morgan & Sterling which had sugar plants. My grandmother lived in Longmont and I remember driving by GW Sugar on our way into town to see her. We also lived in Fremont, Ohio (Northern Ohio Sugar.. a subsidiary of GW). This sure brings back memories!
