Spring 2015 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds - new pics added 6/1/15
Lens: DA*300 Camera: K-5IIs Photo Location: Southwestern Ohio
Posted By: Bud, 05-21-2015, 06:26 PM

So far this spring, I've seen 3 adult males and a female in my yard at the same time. It was 43 degrees here this morning, so I'm sure they're questioning whether or not they took a wrong turn somewhere

Per usual, when posting images with blooms, I'll list the plant species.

All shots are hand held with K-5IIs, DA*300 and available light.

Thanks for looking!

Bud

Awesome shot, Bud! I have only seen a couple of hummers this spring so far, as well, but hopefully more are on the way.

Thanks, and you're welcome! I'm a little obsessed with nectar plants for hummingbirds and happy to share.

Thank you! I spend a lot of time (too much, probably ) researching and seeking out nectar plants for hummingbirds, and have a variety of perennials and annuals all around my property.

Salvias are a very interesting family of plants, and there are so many out there. Thanks for the comments!

Thanks! The spring northern migration is coming to an end. Unless you have an adult male that has staked out your yard as its territory, June can be a pretty slow month, as the mothers tend to their nests. Activity peaks from July through September when the young leave the nests and prepare for the fall migration. I have found that the more good hummingbird plants you have in bloom, the better your chances for activity from May through September. Good luck with your hummingbird adventures!
