of the Painted Desert. If you're ever in the area this is a very special place to visit. Photos taken after a rainstorm and the light seemed to be just right to bring out the colors.

That's a very nice perspective. Looks like an abstract painting almost. Where is this place?

What a nice landscape. It's beautiful! (It does look like the hills are covered in mold!)

Great. Do you know what makes the colours Bob ? guess it would be minerals of some sort?

The purple color may be amethyst deposits. Seems to me the coloration may just be varying types of quartz family minerals.

Here's what I found Grant.

It took millions upon millions of years for nature to create this natural canvas of unimaginable design that some describe it as a multi-colored layered cake. The Painted Desert draws upon the earth’s indecisive nature. From shifts in the earth’s crust brought about by temperamental volcanoes and earthquakes to complete inundation by fresh and sea waters alike, a veritable host of elements have breathed life into this area. Colorful sediments of bentonite clay and sandstone, stacked in elegant layers, feed off the setting Arizona sun in an ever-changing display of colorful splendor

this was once an ancient seabed from what I understand, millions of years of stacked sediment. GeoJerry could explain this better than I.

It's about 15 miles out of Winslow AZ Jerry on Navajo Nation land, an isolated place, but worth the time to visit.
