Comicpalooza Cosplay!
Lens: FA31 Limited Camera: K-5 IIs Photo Location: Comicpalooza, Houston, TX Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F2.2

Did a slew of sets (over 20!) last weekend at a comic convention here in Houston called Comicpalooza. Here are some highlights from the sets! Everything was shot with the FA31 Limited. Flash was used as fill in at HSS 1/250 for almost all the pictures as well. Aperture was mostly parked at f/2.2, although there was some variation as necessary.

These lovely ladies spend a lot of time and effort into making their costumes--these are not purchased! Links to their pages can be found in the descriptions of the images on Flickr (click the image and it will take you there).

Don't know Captain America? He's from the War era too.

But I do have one you might know in another thread!

Looks like you're having fun with this! I'm liking the different angles you're taking these photos from.

And yes, there are many cosplayers out there worthy of respect. I'm friends with quite a few, and many of them construct their costumes from scratch or build a a good chunk of their cosplay. It's amazing how all their hard work comes together. And good on you to give credit to where it is due. =)

Some very nice shooting of the characters. Did you happen to see Leonard or Sheldon while you were there?

Things like gender are far more fluid in the cosplay world.

Actually, there's a statement in there. You'll find lots of girls portraying male characters because when you think about it...all the iconic comic characters are male. Aside from Wonder Woman, it's hard to think of a female comic character everyone would instantly recognize. There's Batman, Superman, Hulk, Iron Man...all immediately obvious. It's no wonder comic books have been a hard sell for young women...

That's a cracking way of putting it, no wonder I'm suitably confused by this whole cosplay thing.
