2008 Grand Sumo Tournament in Los Angeles · 05:42 PM

I arrived at the stadium with a bag full of lenses only to have the security guard tell me that I cannot bring in multiple lenses! I decided to stick with my A*200mm and left the line to put the rest of my lenses back in the car. Of course, they were only checking bags so I pocketed my trusty FA 50mm.

Nice shots.
They say the camera adds 10lbs, are Sumo wrestlers the exception to that rule?

Very nice shots... I never realized that sumo could do the splits! The child sumo shot is a classic.

They started the tournament with a few fake matches against kids. It reminded me of the beginning of the movie 300 where scrawny Leonidas fights the gigantic wolf.

As you can see from the photos, sumo wrestlers are surprisingly nimble and flexible.

Nice shots. I love the kids as part of the mix - the kid in number 3 looks so scrawny in comparison to the wrestlers!

Thanks for sharing these they're quite memorable.

When I lived in Europe I was able to watch Sumo tournament on EuroSports but here none of the cable channels carry it. It's one heck of a "sport" - always found myself pushing or holding as if one with the contestants.

Nice shots! I was in L.A. Friday nite at the Cubs vs Dodgers game and the Sumo Wrestlers were there. One of them threw out the first pitch and a group of them was introduced onfield.

I took a few pics of one of them playing catch on the field but unfortunately the focus is off. Apparantally the focus was messed up and the AF stopped working all together the next day at Disneyland

Great shots. I really like the one where the crowd flash is going off. Very nice work on all of them. I do feel a little wierd looking at guys in thongs

Yep! If a sumo wrestling tournament comes to your area, I would definitely suggest going!
