Picture of a local rapeseed field... I was messing around with landscapes and (fairly) shallow DOF with my new DA 70...

I can almost smell that awful smell that goes with these fields, great capture to be able to that.

The crop has a useful soil improving role. This is known as a "break crop" - one that helps improve the yield of the following cereal crops, in particular wheat.

Canola is a biologically engineered rapeseed that produces the most nutritious oil, next to olive oil, for human consumption. If they are growing rapeseed for soil replenishment they are missing out on what is a big crop in Canada. But, the picture could be either rapeseed or Canola. They look pretty much the same.

No I think it is processed into a rapeseed oil here, but a field full of the stuff still stinks.

Thanks for the comments, folks

Yes, rapeseed has traditionally been a break crop here in the UK, but increasingly it is being farmed for profit due to the high quality of the oil... There's a lot more of it here than there used to be!
