Wetlands Walkabout
Lens: DA* 300 Camera: K5IIS Photo Location: Sherwood Park, Alberta

Just a Friday night stroll around the wetlands last night.

#1 - A rare Mr. Mallard on the grass


#2 - A rare Mrs. Mallard on the grass


#3 - Someone was told to Duck Off


#4 - The poser Mr. Redwinged blackbird by far the dominant species out here


#5 - Finally me with 300 and Mr. Rudy Duck got nice and close


#6 - Just a Golden Hour shot - and out here this time of year this happened at 09:20 pm a good half hour before sunset Love the long days.

Lookin' good, buddy. You mentioned the mallard is rare - is that the case locally or is the population of these birds shrinking generally? (you can tell my wildlife knowledge would fit on a postage stamp - a very small postage stamp).

great shots of the fowl and the golden hour photo is picture perfect. I think most of the Canada Geese are now in the States, enjoying the warmth and nightlife, lots of snowbirds sure are.

haha Thanks Jer - what I meant was the mallards on grass is rare - there are very abundant here , the most dominant duck species in the spring / summer. They are generally very skittish so I usually do not get them on grass as they fly away as soon as they see me.

Thanks Bob haha most snowbirds are back for the long days here - it won't be too long before the geese and people head south once again

Thanks Norm - luck and chance mostly - the wetlands is a 5 minute walk from my house and let's say I get here 4 out of 7 evenings. There are a couple of lookouts and a bridge every so once in a while they (the birds) decide to come close as I am always as close as I can get.
