2015 Inaugural Kayak Venture
Lens: Pentax FA 28-105 f/4-5.6 (IF)/Sigma 75-300mm f/4-5.6 DL Macro Camera: Pentax K-50 Photo Location: Prince Gallitzin State Park, Fallentimber, PA 16639 ISO: 100

Finally got my kayak out for a day of paddling around the lake, hence the inaugural title. I was out on the water for over 6 hours without a shore break, and you bet my legs were screaming at me when I finally set foot back on land. I got a few shots while I was out, but they're a bit blurry since it was overcast and I was dead set on shooting at iso 100, which given the movement of the subjects and the kayak went rather awkwardly at times. Most of these are cropped shots, the rest are sooc jpegs resized down to 25% original. Images will be captioned with appropriate lens used.

All said, not a bad first day out for the year in my kayak.

Nice day out I am still waiting eagerly to get back in mine. Did you use the AF? I always have problems with my K-30s AF whenever there are branches involved... Love the light on the last one.

I did use the AF, but I was trusting the indicator for the most part. I've never given the AF a real test, since I mainly shoot manual with old MF glass. Given the nature of being on the water in a kayak and the subjects I shoot, manual composition is pretty much out of the question due to movement and time restrictions. At the same time, however, I didn't use Auto mode either.

When I take the K-30 out I am usually in TAv mode, and I let the ISO range up to 800, speed I try to keep under 1/100... I set to spot focus mostly. And I often repeat the focusing and reshoot just in case 😉

For the critter shots, my best luck comes from getting upwind and slowly drifting towards them. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but less distractions from paddling can only work in your favor.
