Posted By: Matthew Roberts, 02-06-2007, 07:40 AM

Drove out to Enchanted Rock SNA in the Hill Country on Sunday, and stopped to see the Eagles on the Llano River, too!

Here's the results: :ugh:

You have a lot of nice shots here. Too many to really comment on individually.

If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the eagle shot. I like the nest being in the shot with the eagle in flight. It gives dimension as opposed to a straight shot of the eagle surrounded by blue sky.

Thanks, and welcome to PentaxForums.com Will!

That eagle shot is one of my favorites, too. The nest is there, too, because I was shooting shots of the nest, when the adults swoops down towards the river!

Have any others you like specifically?

Hi Matthew,

There are some very nice compositions in there and you've done a good job in finiding interesting subjects in what seems to be a very arid area.

In my opinion all the photographs you posted would be enhanced with a contrast adjustment. Play a bit with the levels and contrast and it'll breathe more life into them.

Nice work!

Nice shots Matthew, I especially like the 3rd and second to last. I agree with Nikhil above in that a bit more contrast would be good in some of them. But keep posting! I enjoy looking at other's work

The first series-2,6,7,10...
The second series - 2,5,7...
These photos "are counterbalanced enough" on a composition...

The best regards!

Hey, what camera and lenses are you using? I don't think you mentioned what you were shooting with. I have been looking at alot of the pics submitted on here and the settings used, and it's been helping me understand how to shoot different types of pictures.

Thanks all, for the replies. They haven't really post-processed that much, cropping, borders, B&W conversion, and some shadows/midtones/highlights adjustments in PSP XI.

As to the eagles, they're off of Highway 71 between Llano and Burnet, Texas. Somewhere about here. Nice little parking area on the river-side of the road, the nest is not more than 200 yards from the road. There are 3 adult eagles, with (I think) 1 immature eagle. They're there right now 'til sometime in April, and arrive in Oct. Note: these are the only nesting pair in CenTex, but many Bald Eagles winter at Lake Buchanan, just east.

More info at Cottonwood Photography.

And yes, it is worth it! Even if you don't like the eagles, there's the Highland Lakes, Longhorn Caverns, Enchanted Rock, and the charm of all the small towns in the area (Llano has the best-preserved, and largest downtown), and don't forget Storm's Hamburgers in Hamilton, Lampasas, Burnet, Marble Falls, and Kingsland!

Hope that helps you!

xecutech, I'm shooting with a K100D. The eagle picture is taken with a Sears Multicoated A 70-210mm f/4.0 with Macro capability, from what I've seen it's probably a clone of the Pentax SMC-A 70-210mm f/4.0.

The Enchanted Rock photos are with the kit lens, or Pentax SMC-DA f/3.5-5.6 18-55mm zoom.
