Toyota Limousine

During my recent visit to Japan I photographed this unusual Toyota Limousine. I have never seen this model before and I am interested to know a bit more about it. Can any of you knowledgeable petrol heads identify this model ?

Thank you

IMHO it's ugly enough to be an early Prius Hybrid.

They probably would have sold a few if they had.

No ! it has to be quantity, not quality. I thought you are experienced enough to know that.

After doing some research I found that this car is a Toyota Classic. Built in 1966 and only 100 were made. Very hard to find and expensive to buy.

Well done Ivor!!

It might have looked OK in 1966, but the headlights sitting on the mud guards (US = fenders) rather than being built into the mudguards was a bit passť for the time.

That's 1996, not 1966.

Wikipedia has an article on it.

Thanks for the correction Jens. I was just going by Ivor's quoted date.
I guess it underlines my assertion that the headlight/mudguard configuration was passť!!!

It is not easy to find anything about it on the internet. One of Wikipedia's links gives a 404 error and the other is to a Japanese site, but the date is clearly 1996 to 1996.
The only other ref I could find was for Toyota Classic sports events.

Not to mention the tail lights, they look like an after thought. "Oops, we forgot the brake light. "Ah, well just put some there".

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to answer, I knew I can rely on you. Never occurred to me to search for the obvious - "classic".

Greetings
