? What mystery. Glass insulators were used for a long time on wooden poles.

Looks like an insulator cap, but I don't think I've ever seen one with a flange like that. Is there a patent number on it? I wonder if it's missing a case which would have fit beneath the cap, inside that rim.

It looks like an electric fence insulator. I am guessing that the pole it was on was about fence post height. If it was for horses, a wide white tape (for visibility) is often used, which might explain the wide flange. Most fence post insulators these days are PVC, but I have a few porcelain ones that were fixed to the sides of wooden posts. I have not seen that top fitted type before. It makes a nice "agricultural art" pic.

Thanks guys. Yes it is a high voltage glass insulator it is merely placed on a short steel pole in the back yard, for decorative purpose.
The pole, at one time supported the old style huge satellite dishes.
My grandfather worked on the Grand Coulee Dam, and had several items from that project, this insulator is one such item.

Thanks again.
