How my day started...
Posted By: Buddha Jones, 06-17-2008, 06:52 AM

So I was sitting in my room when I started to hear a pretty rhytmic jackhammer type noise outside my window and above me. I can't quite place it so I go outside to inspect and see what is going on.

Well I get out there and I can hear it better now and turn to walk at the side of my house towards the back yard and it is as I started to suspect, it was a woodpecker, but he was not pecking any wood, he was pecking my chimney, go figure. So he sees me looking at him and flies off. As I turn to walk back from where I just came, something catches my eye. I didn't see it before because I was looking up, but now that I am walking back I am looking down, and there he is. About a 4-5 foot blacksnake, I am hoping.

So I knock on the back door to get my roommate to let me in and I run in to get my camera, snap on the DA*300mm and rush back outside to see if I can get some good snaps of him w/o getting snapped at myself.

I'm both shivering, and very impressed at the same time Buddha.
I hope that the rest of your day goes like that, you'll have a nice photo collection

I dunno, looks like a set-up to me. And it's not like it is poisonous snake.....

Great shots, BTW. I like the snake on the fence the best.

What happened to the blind woodpecker?

Oh come on! you're not worried about a 5 foot snake are you?!

I was hiking with a friend a few years back. I don't know how I saw it, but my friend was about to step on a huge snake. Luckily, she got out of the way because the thing was wrapped up and ready to strike. Fortunately, I had my ZX-7 loaded with velvia 50 and my sigma 70 - 300. Unfortunately, the shots fell victim to camera shake!

Great shots Buddha, and thanks for not killing the critter. It'll keep rats and mice out of your house for sure !!
