Bird of Prey
Lens: sigma 70-200mm f2.8 Camera: K-5 IIs Photo Location: Melton

A medium bird of Prey near Melton Victoria.

I believe it is a Grey Goshawk. Spotted while driving down a rural road just out of town. Having only the 70-200 Sigma with me, I felt a little bit unequipped. While trying to get closer the bird eventually spooked and took off.

Black-shouldered kite (common). But nice stalking and nice pics. The second one may not be the sharpest (taken "on-the-fly" in more ways than one) but it shows the definitive dark grey outer wing with tell-tale black shoulder spot on the underside. It captures the motion of flight nicely. The grey goshawk (uncommon) is more of a different shades of grey bird without any black. It has an even more uncommon white morph.

Yes, thanks for the ID. It did not come up in my initial search.

Nicely done. Sometimes one just needs to be in the correct place at the right time.

I have been in the same situation many times myself. Nice captures, getting that guy in flight is much harder than it looks.
