Got a reversing ring in the mail yesterday and had a blast trying it out with an old manual kit zoom I had from my film SLR (a Phoenix P1, all mechanical except the light meter. I bought it to take on deployment with me back in the late 90's, figuring it would survive almost anything...)
Anyway, I didn't expect very much but was actually pleasantly surprised at the results.
Testing with a cheap ruler, I think it has a reproduction ratio of about 1.57:1 on the 35mm end and 1:2.2 on the 70mm end. The focus ring doesn't really do much. I shot mostly at f/16, which was enough to judge focus under a fairly bright sun. I learned to set the zoom ring for the size of the subject, then lean in until I got focus.
This picture of a dragon fly was taken at about 50mm if I recall correctly.
