I love the colours, but it's still getting rejected
Posted By: little laker, 06-18-2008, 07:30 PM

I photographed this flower the other day, absolutely nailing the exposure.

However it just doesn't look right to me, so I'll probably be deleting it.
I hate it when that happens

In my opinion at the right angle that flower would have made an outstanding photo

Don't reject it, crop it!

You could also try some lighting effects in PS. It's a good shot and I like Ole's crop.

Those kinds of flowers are tough...you really need a very deep DOF to get the whole thing, and at f32 you're getting some some diffraction. I think part of the problem with this shot is the proportions, and maybe the petal closest to the camera is taking up a little too much of the frame...

But you're right, the colours are very nice indeed!

The colors do pop - I like the suggestion of pp some lighting effects. Good luck.

Stu, I like Ole's crop and you might want to tone down the saturation a little. The colours pop but they might be a little too much.

Hey Stu, I wouldn't reject it. It is a nice shot with great potential. I agree with all the other suggestions, crop, as Ole has done and have a bit of a play round with light effect etc, there is an even greater shot waiting to happen I am sure.

I wouldn't reject that for a second. I took the liberty of this edit. rotate and plain black to fill uncovered corners...

the colors could still use a little less saturation but this orientation lessens that issue to my eyes...

Thank you everyone,
Those crops, and efforts look great.

I'll most likely be heading back to that park tomorrow, and if the flower is still there and still beautiful I would like to try a couple of more angles.
Plus I want to try something a little different than I've ever done before.

I'll hopefully have something to post tomorrow night

i would definitely try a different angle; namely take from the other side of the flower (180 degree) and focus on the two petals in the center

I like the shot, Stu. Sometimes it is just purely depending on the luck
