Building, Branches, and "Bats"
Lens: SMCP DA 12-24mm f/4 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Victoria, BC ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F8

It was a late afternoon stroll through the streets of downtown Victoria during my December 2014 holidays there. I could not help but notice the shadows of a bare deciduous tree on the left and an evergreen tree on the right falling eerily on the east wing of the BC Parliament Buildings. Thanks to the shadow of tree on the right falling on the building, my alliteration is complete: Building, Branches, and "Bats".

The sky is dramatic and the building itself seems secondary being apparently used as a canvas for the interplay of shadow and light probably only possible in monochrome. Great composition.

Now this is cool! Lots of high drama going on here and some nice contrast. Great shot!

Thanks. Yes, you are absolutely right: this works only in monochrome. The deep blue sky, the brown bark and branches, and the warm sandstone colour were very distracting in the original. Glad to hear your perceptive comment that the building is the canvas for painting light and shadows.
