A few from an old lens
Posted By: tomtor, 06-19-2008, 03:59 AM

In my town we had an historic event and I shot some costumes with my old manual focus non-A Tokina ATX 28-85/3.5-4.5.

I like the results. Manual focusing was not always easy on the moving people, but it got better with some practice...

At Historic Fashion you can find more.

Fun shots. I like the first and fourth ones the best. Number 5 looks somehow out of place with the others. looks like you did well. Thanks for sharing.

Nice shots. Manual focus does take practice. I never had autofocus up until a few years ago but now I find I don't use manual enough and I'm no longer as adept at it as I used to be.

I would love to see more of the costumes but that's for personal reasons. I do costume design and construction, mainly for theater but I've done a few for faires and such as well. I love looking at other people's work to get ideas. I'd love to see the full costume of the first and last ones. Following your link now...

You're lucky! I don't have many shots of full costumes, but those two ARE in the link...

Situations like this are where using the hyperfocal distance markings come in very useful. Set it to the range that you are working in, and fire away.

The good thing is that most old lenses have the markings right on the barrel.

Good use of fill flash to balance the light too.

Nice. My wife will like these. Like Mel, she has a background in theatrical costumes. I 'm a stagehand and my wife and I met in the theater.
