I initially thought it was Welsh. The I googled it and it's Gaelic. But Google could be wrong : )

It is Scottish Gaelic, meaning road of the French.
Is it near Cape Breton (Canada) or something? I have never seen the colour and lettering in Scotland.

Aye, most of our signs are black lettering on white backgrounds, except the tourist information ones, which are white lettering on brown backgrounds.

In Scotland and Australia the sign would also be on the opposite side of the road. Driving on the right side of the road is suicide!
