First Impressions of Skye
Camera: Pentax K-5 Photo Location: Scotland
Posted By: GeoJerry, 09-07-2015, 12:25 AM

Skye was the last stop on our tour of Scotland. We were there 30 years ago, when the only way to get there was by ferry. The island seemed very remote. Now, with a bridge, it appeared to us that there were about 10 times the number of tourists. Still as beautiful as ever, but this time with full parking lots and triple the hotel rates.

The Sligachan Bridge. We have a watercolor of this bridge that we bought while living in Scotland in the 1980’s but we never knew where the bridge was. When we drove by, we recognized it immediately.

A small waterfall near the Sligachan Bridge.

The Fairy Bridge, near Dunvegan Castle.

On the road to the town of Stein, on the northwest coast of Skye.

A home on the coast just outside of Stein. The yellow flag seemed incredibly out of place - it’s a smiley face flag.

Beautiful shots of a beautiful country! Looks a wee bit gloomy, though...

Hey, fair go! There a bit of blue sky over the Fairy Bridge.
Jerry had a hit of light on his last series - that might be a record for brighter days in one Scottish trip.
Perhaps Kerrowdown might give his expert advice?

OOPS. Forgot to say, another great series!

Reminds me of our one-day on Skye, entering from the south by ferry and exiting via the bridge. And the weather was as pictured - low overcast with a bit of drizzle, especially when we first arrived (the ferry crossed through pretty heavy fog). Preety place, even the very limited amount we saw.

That's cos a happy Scot lives there.

A well crafted set of images that capture and portray the Isle of Skye beautifully, well done indeed.

Nothing beats a bit of gloom to lively up a beautiful Scottish landscape! Really like the first two ones.

Thanks again Rod! We actually did have a half day with some genuine sunshine! I will provide convincing photographic evidence of this shortly!

Thanks Fries... actually I kind of liked the gloom (as long as the air was dry). It can make for some drama.

Thanks for your feedback sealonsf! That's a favorite of mine also. One of those shots that looked boring coming out of the camera, but then popped out with a little tweaking.
