Fighting finches
Posted By: Heinrich Lohmann, 02-07-2007, 02:52 PM

Yesterday we visited some friends and they had a couple of bird feeders right outside their kitchen window. Mostly finches (Common Redpolls) and a few sparrows. The finches were constantly fighting so the sparrows eventually just left. Of course I just happend to have the camera handy :-)

They were all shot handheld through a double pane window, K100D, DA 50-200.

Heinrich, these are very nice! My favourite is #4 - all the elements are very nicely placed and the expression of both finches is so dramatic!

What were they fighting over? Food (of which there seemed to be plenty)?

Hot action on those Red Poles. Makes you wonder why they can't just get along what with all the food under their feet.

Thank you Nikhil, It was not for the lack of food, it seemed that they were fighting just for the hell of it. Not much different from us, eh?

Take care, heinrich

Hi Clarence, looks like they don't behave much different from us.

Take care, Heinrich

No Redpolls here, just House Finches and Goldfinches, but all finches seem to be alike. Seen them chase off sparrows, doves, etc.
